Melanoma

Melanoma is a malignant tumour and is mainly a type of skin cancer.  Although it is not one of the most common forms of skin cancer, it causes the most deaths.

Luckily melanoma is preventable as long as you keep out of the sun.  Unfortunately despite the number of campaigns encouraging the use of fake tans instead of baking under UV rays, there are160,000 new cases of this disease every year.

Dogs have the ability to sniff out various cancers including melanomas so if your dog starts to take an interest in a patch of skin then it could be a warning.
